Post Starting a new build
Hello All
This is my first post.
Been reading for over a year.
I'm about to build a light LT using a 3 HP (79cc) from harbor freight.
Does anyone know of a flange that will bolt to this engine?
If I can get a flange to mate that will go along way towards reinforcing the shaft housing.
I can use a threaded pipe for a housing.
The 4 holes that bolt to the block can be larger than the threaded hole size, I'll use spacers.
This build will be similar to the bolt on no weld kits $399.00 plus S&H.
I appreciate any and all replies to this.
Thanks
Don

What kind of flange are you talking about?

Like a pipe flange that bolts to the motor where the shaft comes out where a pump would bolt up.

Even a custom or a cast.
This would be a solid starting place to build a shaft housing.
I prefer this to pillar bearings I want to keep it light as pos.
Like this but maybe steel or stanless.

Post Engine pump adapter
This is what I'm talking about.

Engine pump adapter. Except to fit a small 2.5hp-3hp predator engine
Does anyone know the measurements of the bolt pattern for that engine?
I have ordered mine yet.

Fab your own "flange" from plate and drill the engine bolt pattern on it then center punch and weld drive tube on. That's how I've seen it done and that's what I run on mine.

I plan to connect the engine drive shaft to a 1/2" x 4' shaft by using a a 5/8" shaft arbor.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Convertible-Mot ... 43be92234c.
This is going on a aluminum 12' sneak boat. Its very light and low to the water.
I'm building this rig for places I can't get to unless I can carry the boat by hand.
I'll also have to be able to easily carry the motor up and down a bank.
I'm trying to keep it as simple and light as possible.

Ziton, any updates on this? Did you come out cheaper than the $300 kit?

From what I can tell the light longtails use a coupler like this.

Might be lighter than what you are looking at.

Mudde.

I thought that most of them used a chain coupler not the ones in the link

The stafford is available as a stepped bored coupler. That eliminates a joint and a purchased part.

and it will give a straighter alignment than the coupler mentioned. Remember you are going to turn it 3,000 rpms. Straighter is better at that rpm.

A chain coupler will be more expensive than the stafford. Lovejoy and beldon also probably make some thing similar if you want to compare prices.

If you have modest alignment issues then a 3 piece lovejoy coupler with the rubber star in the center is a good choice.

You can get by with a lot shorter shaft if you use a universal joint. I've built one as well. 5.5 Honda with 55 inch shaft. 87 pounds full of gas.
