I wanna get rid of the 3hp outboard on my 12ft aluminum semi v duck boat and get a longtail. I was told that I shouldnt run a longtail on a semi v. Is this true? |

It's definitely not ideal, but going from a 3 hp OB to any Mudmotor will be an improvement.slap a little backwater inc or godevil on there and start exploring |

Thanks for the info. I really like the h2o 6.5 motor. What makes the semi v not ideal? |

^^x2 . On that small of a motor its not really going to be noticed as much as you would on a 23hp or so. To the best of my knowledge is that due to the way a semi-V cuts through the water it create turbulence about the same point tht the longtails prop will sit in the water and makes it slip in the water. This is not the case on a flat bottom boat. But like stated earlier you will not run into this as bad due to the low horsepower and slower speeds you will be running at |

I assume that when you say semi-V you mean a tin utility boat with a V bow which flattens out by midhsips and runs flat to the transom, with round chines. I have a 6.5 GDLT on a 12' Springbok semi-V and it works fine. No speed demon but way faster than with a 3hp Ducktwin, and easy to drive. No turbulence issues for the prop. |

I've got a 10hp longtail on a 14' utility boat, with just me in it, it works great. Put 2 other guys and a little gear in there and I have a hell of a time getting the motor to ride right, the wake keeps washing over the cav plate and the prop either dives or climbs, once I do get it settled down it works OK |

My 20hp MBLT works fine on my 1548 Weldbuilt with float boxes. The back of the hull is flat and the boxes make the water break farther back and the prop stays submerged just fine. |
