Longtail build- First MM got a few ?'s
Hey there I'm taking my first dive into the mm world and have a few questions. I recently bought a mud buddy frame with all the controls and everything except a motor. Guy said there was a 24hp Honda on it that he moved to a SD frame. Planning on putting it on a 1648 hull. The motor I have in mind is a Kohler CH 940 a 34hp 1-1/8" shaft motor.
So here's my questions:
1) Does anyone for see any problems using that particular motor?
2) What size prop should I be using?
Thanks for any help. It's much appreciated.

1. Depending on the diameter of the shaft on the Honda, you may need to change the engine side u joint yoke. Also, go online to the various engine retailers and see what the height to the center of the engine shaft is for both motors. If different, it may increase the amount of work for the conversion.
2. Call Jake at Backwater for prop size recommendation. Also, you can look on-line at some of the other manufacturers. Some of them list prop size for various motors.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I would go with what Jake says. My experiences have been quite good with him. He recommended a prop for my homebuilt LT and I think it was spot on. Call him and give him your specs and he will fix you up.

Re: Longtail build- First MM got a few ?'s
Alright next question is on the cavitation plate. The previous owner said that he had "modified" the frame to work on a tall transom by cutting the brace supporting the cav plate, raising the angle and filling in the space with weld. So I'm using the frame on a regular transom. I've cut away the weld fill. But before I just go welding it back is there a certain angle that the plate should sit in relation to the tail of frame or frame/motor itself?
