| Post subject: | FOUR RIVERS Refuge Runner---Sugg. on small longtail |
My head is spinning after looking at multiple brands of longtails for my Four Rivers Refuge Runner. Want something small that is under 80 pounds. Have been running a small outboard, but want something that can get me through the real shallow areas or areas loaded with vegetation. Any suggestions on what works well and isn't junk would be appreciated. |

I know some guys that ran 6 hp beavertail on momarsh boats. They said they ran very good. They were all aluminum frame and about 80-90 lbs. Can't remember the shaft length. |

Thanks for the reply North LA Hunter and Huck Finn. 80 pounds was about as high as I wanted to go on the weight and 7 hp tops. Do most of the brands for this size longtail have aluminum frames or do some have steel. Most sites I've looked at are not real clear on what the frame is. --Huck the 13 hp would be awesome, but unfortunately not for my setup. |

I would go with the stumpJumper mud motor. Its steel and light, perfect for a layout boat. |

I have a ppf wood duck great little motor it's very light and a strong little runner. It's a lot like the stump jumper just feel it is made a little better. |

Fireman- do you have one and do you know how it compares to the wood duck Draw- why do you think it is made better? The engine, frame, transom mount, ran both? Also do you know an approximate speed these would go on my type of boat |

A buddy has the stump jumper I have the wood duck the frame seems like more attention to detail was made on the wood duck. I also feel the Gx200 and suburu robin motors are comparable. Speed on that boat no idea I get 10mph on my 1436 with two guys and gear. I have a little work done to the gx200 but not too much. That is also one perk of the honda gx200 a lot more aftermarket parts to hop it up. |

fireman - so... you do have the stump jumper? If so, is it easy to maintain and have you had any problems with it OlSchool- I want a mud motor that works with my layout. Something light and that won't break the bank. That being said I don't want to waste my money on something cheaper just because its cheap. I've heard the longtails get around better when it come to the sloppy stuff. I looked up the copperheads, but they are 80 pounds (dry weight). That is my max weight I've been told I can safely put on my boat. Plus my boat isn't designed to go fast anyway. |

The refuge runner by Tom is a great boat. It handles a 7 HP Robin just fine. Robin engine's warranty is for 5 years if run in the horizontal mode as a normal posture. Enjoy your boat! It doesn't need to go 20 MPH to give more fun than is morally permissible. Mark F. Cheney |

Just got myself a layout boat, an old fin and feather fiberglass pirogue, and had thought about going the weedeater route but now plan on buying a Taiwan longtail kit and a 6.5 horse Predator motor. All for around $400. Seems Predators are popular among the go kart crew and so lots of modding info and kits out there. I realize now that setup I posted has been discussed, but while I'm here I'll show you my boat and ask if anyone knows the best way I should mount a longtail. The end closest to the camera is the rear of the boat. It has a built in trolling motor that needs to be replaced but I wonder if that would effect the boat at all if I got up to speed with the longtail. |
