Post U joint part number
Need just the U joint for my 20hp Honda MBLT... Yokes are fine. Ended up slinging a cap off one side of it trying to get thru some pretty thick grass/pads. Made it to the boat ramp, just couldn't run much off idle. The thing was shaking like hell lol. I can pull it and have a press and everything to do it with, but what U joint do I need to buy??

Carry the cross and at least 1 cap (preferably 2) to your local bearing supply - they will most likely have it in stock, and at a significantly lower cost of what it would be from MB or local auto parts store...

That's what I figured Id have to do. Just didn't know if maybe there was a common standard joint everyone ran or liked for whatever reason. I don't see a need to spend $100+ on a $15-20 part.

I'm also guessing that it would probably be easier to pull the engine off the frame to get to it rather than monkeying with the prop, shaft, bearings etc... I need to do seals but I believe I'll limp these along at least till the break in the season and just keep them full of grease.

Today was the third time I've ran it since buying it and apart from losing a U joint cap I think I'm getting some bugs worked out. My biggest problem before was the yoke walking up the engine output shaft. Had to tap the existing hole for a bigger 3/8 bolt and ground a flat on the shaft. Ran probably 10mi total today and it never moved. I think once this joint issue is resolved I may finally be ready to hunt. Scouted some new area today and jumped up about 30 birds coming and going so its looking pretty promising so far.

That sounds like a much better way to go about it. I believe I'll do the same once I track down the right joint and go back together with it. I'm beginning to feel a little better after yesterday's run but its gonna take me putting lots of hours on this rig with no failures in order for me to take it to some of the holes I'd like to get into later on in the season.

Where 'bouts in east Tx are you?

Finally got around to pulling the engine and yoke/U joint. Mic'd it all out and it takes a Precision 338 U joint, picked one up from Oreillys for 14.99 with a 3yr warranty.

Driveshaft Specialties in Beaumont, Tx also has them and will press it in for a few bucks, he also has them in stock and said he will do one out the door for $35... Just FYI. Ill be going to him if I ever need another one. He even put fresh set screws in my Yokes for nothing. Can't beat that IMO...

May I suggest a sleeve on the drive shaft of the motor to fill the space between the end of the UJ yoke and the first shoulder of the PTO. Then put a bolt and heavy washer in the end of the PTO and squeeze the uj yoke against the sleeve. No welding and no drilling of the PTO and a VERY secure UJ mounting.
