Post Speed Loss?
I'm new to the site so pardon me not searching for this in the archives. I recently purchased a used 11hp Go-Devil. First time out it was running 11-12 mph on a 1432 loaded down. 2 adults 1 youngan and a cooler.

Second time out I only got 5 MPH!! Boat was minus one adult. I know the seals on the shaft need to be replaced but I have been keeping it greased like crazy. Does this mean the bushings are fried?

Motor seems fine..

Make sure weight is distributed properly. Nose up attitude will make it bog , it needs to lay over. Try to put your fuel and ice chest up front and go from there. Long tails need to run flat. Good luck and post results and rpm. Thanks

Worn prop can mean instant speed loss. Check your plugs to make sure both are firing. Bad gas can rob you of power. Inspect all fuel lines for leaks. Run Seafoam or Stabil in your gas routinely. What 139sst said. Is the prop/cavitation plate planing at "right" depth? Make any necessary adjustments by bending plate/tab up/down in 1/4" increments. If there is excessive play on the shaft at the prop end, you need to change bearings/seals. Hope that helps.

Wonder what happened to the posts from Monday and Tuesday? Anyway I indicated that if you still had problems, you should rebuild the carb. On an older motor, synthetic oil and grease is a good idea. Replace the gas filter when you change the oil/filter. If there is a foam "pre-cleaner" on the air filter, toss it out, the motor will breathe better.

Not sure what happened to that post. However. The motor has some rough issues. Something is knocking in there bad according to the mechanic. The frame is good so new 11hp honda and we are back in business.

What I had stated on the deleted post was on an older motor like yours, rebuilding the carb might insure no more problems- I did that with my 18 HP motor years ago- most repair shops will do it if you are not mechanically inclined. Happy mudding!
