 Shortening skeg
After reading woodie busters broken skeg story I started thinking of shortening the skeg up a little bit. Most of my running I am doing the cav plate is out of the water a good bit. Usually 8 " of water. If I would shave 2" off the skeg it would help out some. Anyone do that? I hate to mess with original equipment or try to reinvent the wheel but mudn is like sex. It's a game of inches

 Re: Shortening skeg
As long as it has enough on it to bounce up an protect that prop... a skeg strike isnt even close to a prop strike when your muscling the longtail in inches of water...

 Re: Shortening skeg
I tried that a couple of years ago, shaved 2" off. Amazing how less surface area in the water makes steering easier, less "drag", but ended up putting some of it back on after I sheared a flywheel key on a prop strike. I put a straight edge from the bottom tip of the prop back to the shaft at normal running position water level and added back enough to put the skeg tip even with the bottom of the prop at this angle - haven't had a problem since...
