Today I went out to scout in an area im very unfamiliar with but have been to before. I saw a large number of birds in the distance and decided to make the trip out. we ended up up setting up and did awesome! However the water became so shallow on the way the skegg was gliding on the mud and its clay hard. so I ran on the surface pretty much and was able to keep on plane and keep a good speed till we got there. after a good day of shooting getting back to the truck was hell.... my arms feel like jello and my back is killing me.

Anyone attempted to make a trim adjustment to hold the prop on the surface. and I know about BW and their tilt stop but it doesn't hold it position and i don't see that it would relieve the stress. thoughts?

I run a 1848 boat with a longtail on an modified mud buddy 72" powered by a 33hp generac with dual mikunis and the governor removed witha 10x6 prop if that gives any more insight. I don't want a surface drive just to remedy this because of the advantages i feel have with the longtail.

Apart from bending the "trim tab" on the trailing edge of the cavitation plate up/down, not sure what much else you can do- of course experiment with shifting weight on board but you have to basically rough it. Definitely if the bottom is hard a surface drive will not help. I am leaning to moving up to a 1848, currently run a 1648, and go with a 35 HP LT. I was curious about the 33 Generac and that was short-lived for sale on the MB site. How does it run? Have you experimented with a smaller prop, say a 9x7? My 27 LT is rated for the 9x7 but I run better with a 9x6. I feel your pain- after six straight days of hunting my left steering arm is sore, and my right arm- reverse with push pole, as well hurts. Still would not trade my LT for anything else.

Take the same route in and out each time and you will dig a ditch to the spot. It will get better with each trip

I tore my cav plate completely off my longtail a couple of years back......it'll run on top and skate like a champ then, but it was all I could do to hold on to it.
