Questions for a new build
Getting ready for a longtail build on a 14 36 flatbottom that we have used a 9.9 outboard on and we can't always get aroung like we'd like.Usually two of us in the boat with dog and gear too.I'm thinking 10-15 hp would be about right. In the marsh it's just veg. like cattails and lighter stuff. In the rivers it would be stumps and fallen tree limbs etc.Got a lot of questions so here goes: I'm comfortable welding with wire feed.stick(arc) not comfortable with alum. but I do it and can set up a lathe and use it.Do I use bearings or bushings .I plan on using this till I die.I'm 60 now and I could die next year but I plan on living another 30-40 years.I've heard cav. plates are a pita so maybe some kind of surface piercing prop would be better???people are always bending plates up or down and I don't know enough to mess with em.Do you guys fill the tube with grease and if so could I tap a hole for a plug next to the bearing above the one I'm greasing and grease till it starts exiting. Then screw in plug ?Is this wrong? You can see I know nothing(Schultz)and you guys know lots. More questions coming prob.Oh we prob. use the boat 15-20 times for duck season and all summer running up and down shallow rivers. Thanks,Glen ps I get these red lines underlining
