How to get more speed ?
I have a homemade 9hp longtail, on a 16' large semi v boat. It is used for hunting, usually hauling 2-3 people and carrying over 200 pounds of gear. Due to a horsepower limit in the hunting area, I must use the 9hp, and with such a large load the boat does not get on plane or have the ability to get through thick mud. I would like to know if using a three blade prop would increase speed, I am currently using a two blade 8'' prop like the one used on 9hp go devils. Since I am not looking for performance, but just more speed, would a larger prop help me. Or could someone recommend another solution.
Thanks

Re: How to get more speed ?
If your not allowed mods and your set on that size boat, than your only option is gear reduction (Belt drive).
Last year a friend and I modified his 27 LT from straight drive to a 1.5:1 belt driven. He gained 3-4 mph and his load capacity went up as well.

X2 on gear reduction. The 9hp crawfish model from go devil already comes with gear reduction and allows you to turn a bigger wheel.

amateur hour here guys. Throw a 35 on the backof the boat and put a 9hp sticker on it. Been doing it for years with outboards and never had any trouble. Just don't open it up when people are around.
