Post Pod Size or Hunt Deck
I think I may have found the combination of a motor and boat that I can live with until I can get around to getting the custom boat I would like. I am thinking of going with a G3 1548 which is great with a 0 degree hull http://www.g3boats.com/riveted_and_welded_jon_boats with a 27 SWOMP Back Water LT or a 35 LT if I go with a 35 it was suggested I use pods if I add them what dimensions would they be?

If I stick with the 27 I should be fine the boat weighs in at 340lbs and is really 14'10" long, the 27 weighs in at 185 and the 35 at 225lbs. Is it the weight difference that makes the difference of is it the HP difference that I would need pods? Would it be possible to put a hunt deck on this boat and still run a long tail?

It was said that that boat with a 35 would scoot pretty well. I also looked at the 1548DK http://www.g3boats.com/gator_tough_1548 ... _jon_boats model and a dealer has one coming in but that one weighs in at 500 and 8 degree. I do not this that this would be a good set up with 8 degrees so if I wanted the DK model I should bump to the 1652 with 3 degrees but then that sucker is 660 lbs dry. Man it is tough making a decision on a dealer boat compared to a custom one.

Thanks for any input
Phil

that boat should handle a 35, If you can get a 16' boat then do it.

Really need to avoid pods, they are a bandaid for a boat 2' too short.

I would like to get that 0 dead rise one 1548, not sure it that would hold a 35 or not? I think that heavier one would and the 16 for sure I am just trying to keep away form that 3 degree hull.

What about a LT with a hunt deck? Possible or not?

Thanks
Phil

Its possible, there is a thread fairly recently about it. If i get a few more minutes at work I'll look it up, in the meantime try searching "longtail with Huntdeck" or something like that. Pm WM on here, he's got a 1648 alumacraft with a 35 bw i believe, he could tell you what he thinks about that size on a hull a foot shorter.
