 14ft johnboat .... Decisions on motor/longtail
What's a good expensive combo to run mostly rivers some mud flats max 3 people on a 14 ft johnboat and I would like to see 20mph .. I'm thinking 13hp predertor 420cc or the "duromax" 16hp" not sure what makes more power I plan on drilling jets, exhaust, intake etc ... Love the vanguard just can't afford it ... Looking at the mud skipper / sps longtails

Don't get that mud-skipper . That frame is shit . The sps Swamp Runner kit is better . The Frame is heavier duty . The transom mount is stronger and has a deeper grab on your Transom . Also you have zerk fittings on the swamp runner unlike the mud-skipper .

 Re: 14ft johnboat .... Decisions on motor/longtail
Ok I ended up buying the sps longtail, talked to the owner super nice guy super knowledgable on these long tail set ups... Paired it up with the duromax 16hp yea it's a cheap route but should work fine until I blow it up. I plan on removing governer with the basic engine mods intake, exhaust, jets etc if wonder if I will gain rpms when I remove governer

I'll bet it doesn't even plane with three guys. Hope I'm wrong but if you expect 20 with three you might need to dial down expectations.

I am guessing 10 mph with gear. You will be plowing with three guys and gear. Is there any way to bump up to a longer boat our ditch your buddies
