 1642 what size motor?
I have a 1642 flatbottom and want to put a longtail on it. I have never been around a mud motor before. What size motor should i put on it?

 Re: 1642 what size motor?
I was back and forth between wanting a SD or a LT. I only run maybe a mile and half tops. After some research it looked like SD were more needed when running long distances. Also the boat does not have a grab bar for stand up motoring.
Should I go with something other then a LT. Is a grab bar really needed for a LT?

You don't have to have a grab bar to run a longtail. Just have to use a little caution if standing. That said, you don't have to be standing to run a longtail either. Take a look at the 23 HP swomp from back water inc. Best longtail out there right now. Contrary to many peoples beliefs, they are smooth as silk to run. With a light load you could prob get close to 20 mph with one on that boat.

Go backh20 and save a few thousand from going with a SD. Plus you will save money from repairs. No brainer with those short distances.

I drive my 23 hp gdlt sitting down 90% of the time without a grab bar. You do have to be careful, damn thing has had me puckered up a few times from almost throwing me out.
