Get a SWOMP Lite glider kit from Back Water Inc. and put a 6.5hp Predator engine on it from Harbor Freight. You'll have a nice, dependable motor for right at $1,100.

Re: 10 hp dixie SD VS 9.5 Swamp Rat
If you want a small surface drive don't get a Dixie they have changes owners but it seems the customer service hasn't and they still have issues just read a few post from people with them. I would look for a used copperhead for a small SD if on a budget and if you want a LT I would look at the glider kit from backH2O like frank said. I know $1100 might be a lot for you if on a budget but you want something dependable too then won't cost in the long run.

I bought a PPF wood duck for my first motor and loved the hell out of it and it was only $1200. We all start somewhere.

Re: 10 hp dixie SD VS 9.5 Swamp Rat
what about a stump jumper ive seen some good reviews on that and I like the suburu engine its rated to be able to start in -10 degrees and up here in CT it get cold during duck season.
I do like those BackH20 those look like some good quality frames.

Re: 10 hp dixie SD VS 9.5 Swamp Rat
Stump jumper gets really good reviews I felt the frame on the ppf was better when I bought mine you can just buy a frame from ppf as well and put the Subaru motor on it or the backH2O frame as well, if you like the Subaru motor I would buy the backH2O glider kit and the Subaru motor and you would have a sweet little motor for less then the stump jumper. The backH2O frames have three sealed ballbearings by the prop that need zero maintenance I feel it's a lot better design and they come with a nice prop.
