1644 hull would be perfect. I would not go too wide with a long tail

I have run a 18x36 GD with a 23HP and a 18HP both did very good. I would like to know how a 23HP will do on a 18x44 that may be my next boat. the 18x36 GD and 23 HP LT will do 19.5 MPH light, and with 3 people and hunting load will bump 18 mph. 16 or 17 with 4 people

Ive been looking at a weldcraft 1448 with .100 aluminum.
The shallowest water i will be in would be a couple inches deep.

I have a 23 back water swomp on a 1448 and want to move up to a 1648. I would say don't go smaller than 16 ft. In my 1448 with 2 guys, empty, we plane and we do 19-20mph. 2 guys, hunting load, considerable slow down and can't get on plane. Not sure about speed with load. Just not enough boat to carry a load with a 14ft. I have had the boat for 8 years with a 25 HP Johnson short shaft on the back for 7, put the swomp on last year. Knew I wanted a new boat before I bought the swomp. It will work for now though, it's just not ideal during hunting season.

I have a gator trax 1644 that I would be willing to part with if your are interested. It has an extended front deck, hydro turf, removable rear deck for fishing, grab handle, live well, dry storage, bilge pump, and a transducer mount that adjusts up and down. Pm me if interested.

Do you need a mud boat such as a gator trax or go devil boat or would it still work fine with say an alweld or weld craft boat?

it will work on a alweld or weld craft or any other but I assumed you wanted to know what it would work best on. you will be disappointed with anything 14 foot or less. with the 20 hp Honda 16' is good 18' is better. mud boat verses any other boat , well mud boat always better. also with a long tail long and narrow is best.

Post Re: boat for a longtail?
it may be easer if you tell us what you want or expect out of it. like how many people you take or how much weight, and how fast you want to go.

I had a 14x48 with a 9hp LT that did better with 2 people than with 1. but if you are looking for speed a LT isn't for you they are all slow .

Go Devil recommends the 6.5 HP or 9 HP LT for 14' boats

I got a 5.5 god devil on a 12ft riveted that does pretty good. Id get about 12 by myself and a lite load. Add 2-3 people in it she's not gonna go all that fast

Don't mean to thread jack, but what would yall recomend? Mostly deep open water but also shallow stumpy water with lots of hydroplane and lillies? I have a 20 hp longtail. Witch will be upgraded to a 35 one day

My crawfish skiff is 13'48". I have a 25 GD LT on it now. It runs pretty good. Will do 20 with do people and light gear. Does pretty much anything I've asked it to. I've had it at what was probably maxed out with three men a 50 lb lab a full hunting load with probably 5 doz deeks. Took a little longer to get up on step but once it did it ran 15-17mph. I think go devil under rates as far as motor size is concerned. I'd do at least 23 on 1448. I plan on going 27 or 35 back water this summer. I know it will float the larger motor no problem.

Are you worried the boat can't handle the 20 hp?
