Im putting together a 14 lowe boat. It'll be running around in the intracoastal here in NC.
Looking at either the lifan 420 or predator. The lifan is 370 with and 18 amp charger, 320 w/o vs 360 for the predator. See alot of the predators but lifan seems like a solid honda clone. Been driving myself nuts picking an engine. Does the predator charge your battery at all? What do you all have to say?
Was looking at the medium sps kit, but after doing some looking around here I'm having my doubts. This is on a fairly tight budget, which got me into the long tail idea, do I have a better option without paying twice as much? Or do I deal with it and get an ss prop?

If your on a budget look at a used longtail with a u joint. Don't waste money on one of those Thai kits. There will be plenty popping up for sale with the season ending. I would be more concerned with the unit type than the engine type. i think any engine from 16-23hp would work on that boat. What's the bottom width of that 14ft?

It's 40" wide.

I just bought the 15hp lifan for mine. reviews seemed positive and got for cheaper then the predator on black Friday. didn't get a chance to run it yet, but its ready to go once the ice is out.
