im seriously considering adding a single pod to my 1440 but am concerned about the factory drain plug being hindered. What have you guys done to remedy the issue?

You got two options. Plumb the drain hole through that Pod or have it moved...

That way you can remove the plug from inside the boat, the water drains from the same place instead of plumbing thru the pod. I feel like that's a pretty easy solution and very easy to weld still

Just cut out the pieces and weld in the "cutout" before you weld all the pieces of the pod together

I'd go with a cut out in the pod, easier than messing with plumbing through the pod.

furthering this convo, I know most pod manufactures have them flush with the bottom of the boat. What if I put mine up 1" from the flush bottom to not interfere with the drain plug. Will that have an impact on performance aside from the obvious that it wont be as pure for displacement?

what are you trying to accomplish with this pod? keep the back of the boat from sitting to deep or are you looking for some other performance gain?

the pod is strictly for keeping the back end for sitting too deep. I don't know if 1" raised up will make a HUGE difference in accomplishing that. I'm concerned about the weight of the back end because I'm 240lbs, the 15hp and SPS kit has some good weight on it and my hunting partner is 240 lbs., plus gear. The boat with a standard outboard would handle the weight no problem, but the long tail addition has me questioning if I should just add the pod for a few bucks.

is your boat custom or just a regular flatbottom?
is that the perfect boat for your hunting enviroment or could you get a larger boat and still hunt the same enviroment?

Plumbing the drain is just a piece of pipe from the original hole through the pod and out the back, welded in place... A cut out? Really? That's just right to get hung up on something and rip the pod open. It needs to have a smooth bottom and mounted flush with the bottom. Also if he's planning to add a pod, obviously he could use a longer boat considering the pod will make it longer.

Why not a cutout. If you're not hunting rocks or trees what's the problem?
And if you build the pod out of 3/16 or even .125, in an area that small as long as your a competent welder I don't see how it could "rip" open. Especially if the cutout is 1"x1". That's pretty good probability nothing with enough mass can get in the hole to rip it open

A hole saw and a piece of pipe with two welds would be much faster, less chances of leaks, smooth bottom, simply better all the way around. I'm not knocking your thoughts, thinking is always a plus.

That'd be easy sure. I think I just rather have a more "concrete" seal than a pipe thru it with sealant around it. Or are you talking about a piece of aluminum pipe welded in? Disregard, I just finished reading your post, that's definitely a sound idea. I was thinking initially you were talking about pvc pipe

I was thinking stepping up to around size 1648 boat may be better option all the way around. but I don't know what type environment it is being used in.

this boat is being purpose built for an area I hunt. I'm no stranger to "the bigger the boat the better" mentality. I have an Alweld 2070 with 29' sides purpose built for bowfishing. I'm just looking to keep the back end of the boat from being an anchor with my big azz back there plus the extra weight of a longtail. I spoke to a Pod manufacturer (said I was looking at their pods) and they suggested I just raise them up to just over the drain hole. Only difference it will make is that extra 1" of draft in the back end of the boat. That is the route im going to take with a single pod. Probable 8"tall x 36" Wide x 12" Deep. Should add quite a bit of displacement.
