 need help
have been wanting to get a ppf 7hp longtail to put on a small jon boat. im sticking with the small motor for weight issues where I will be launching. how will this motor perform on a 1236 as compared to a 1436? any feedback is appreciated, thankyou

 Re: need help
Not gonna be fast at all, maybe 10mph on the 12 and thats pushing it, it will feel like you are crawling and if there is a current youre not helpin your cause. Its not a speed thing either, longtail aint meant to be fast but when your creepin at WOT it can be discouraging... and boy if you get in the shallow stuff you will prolly want the extra horses to dig your way out... I run a 16hp on a 1436 and Ive never felt like it was too much weight and its not uncommon for us to drop off steep ditches to launch boats... Actually wish I had a 23hp... Good rule of thumb for picking an engine is to pick the one that suits the boat for what you want it to do then go up in hp.
