Post subject: | turning a longtail |
my son gave me a longtail. i put a new motor on it and put it on a 16x44 go devil duck skiff. my question is , what is the easiest way to make it turn.going around a turn is ok, but trying to spin it around takes a lot of room. any ideas, thanks. |

Ain't no easy way especially if you have a boat the slides. My previous boats rear end slid and when stopped, trying to turn around, it still slid. My current boat turns on a dime and I can sit at idle and turn circles. Also, if you have alot of weight towards the front of the boat it will not spin well. |

I start into the turn pretty sharp then lift the tail out of the water. The back of the boat will continue to spin around, once the boat is pointing in the direction I want to go I drop the tail. You have to think ahead and know what you are going to do before you start the turn. |

Your not going to spin it around running fast. If your looking to change direction say on a small river, Running at idle speed start your turn then pull the prop out of the water, the momentum will bring the stern around. You may have to do this a time or two.. Use the long tail like a paddle and rudder. It takes some practice. |

Your right earl33. I did not mean to try that maneuver running fast. The first thing would be to slow down, and I also use the tail as a paddle to help the boat come on around. |

i am pretty much talking about if i were stopped in a small river and wanted to spin around in another direction. i also have a prodrive and all i do is hit the momentary button a couple of times and it spins around easily. |
