Post Overwhelmed with it all
First off I want to introduce myself. My names Luke and I don't know a thing about mud motors. Recently while in the garage moving an 212cc Predator to yet another spot outta the way I thought it was about time to use it for something and wanted to get/build an longtail for my sunfish conversion I'm getting ready to start and my 12' v bottom. I started off looking an the SPS Thai kit and almost pulled the trigger a couple times until I came across this site. After finding this site and reading quite a few negative reviews on them I decided it would be better just to save a bit more and get an lower level American motor. I had a friend of mine introduce me to the PPF woodduck. But the only really negative thing I could find out about them was the paint wears pretty quickly on the shaft. Unfortunately he lives a little ways away so I won't be able to check it out anytime soon. And I've looked online at the stump jumpers and read some reviews on them here that make me lean else where. I also noticed the heavy presence of Swomp Lite owners and checked them out also. Like I said earlier I don't know really anything about mud motors but from what I've gathered on here I'm stuck between the PPF Woodduck and the Backwater Glider kit. For those of you who owned both or even one what was the pros and cons of each motor? They are almost identical in price and in the top end of my budget. I thank anyone that can help me decided between these two or has any information on one or the other.

I own 2 Back Water Inc motors now. A 35 and a 6.5 with the same Harbor Freight motor that you have. I have zero complaints with either motor. The engineering, design quality, and customer service that you get from owning a Back Water motor is honest to goodness better than any you will receive anywhere else. These guys make the best longtail boat motors on the market hands-down. The same top-of-the-line components that are in my 35 are in my 6.5 motor. Same bearing and seal design that'll last hundreds of hours, same marine-grade powdercoat, same Revo-Clean system, same Surface Tracer cavitation plate, etc. etc. I promise you that you absolutely will not beat a Back Water longtail with any other longtail. I don't know where you're at but if you're anywhere near Memphis, TN give me a shout and I'll let you take either of my motors for a spin. And if you aren't near me, call Back Water up and they'll do their best to get you in touch with someone who is close to you.

PPF is now offer a sweet little briggs motor for only $75 more if you are concerned about power. It is low hp but makes a lot of torque for a small motor. Just a thought I loved my PPF.

So we've got a guy wanting to sell one motor in this discussion so he can by the other motor that is being considered. Seems like we've got a winner.
