I got a 1236 welded flat and I'm looking for a MM to put on it. I was thinking about a Back water LT or a PPF wood duck. Are there any other motors that you guys would suggest. I see copperheads but they seem to be more expensive and since I'm 17 price is a big deal. Plz help me out guys. Thx! |

But I see everyone saying. SD SD SD !!! And it's making me think that I should try to get a copperhead or something like that I'm curious if long tails are rlly that bad. |

I had a 16hp LT on a 1448 flat With one person and no gear I would do about 15mph. With 3 people and gear I would do 7mph but thnk god I didn't have to go far. If it's your first then you really enjoy a LT but after a while you'll get that itch to up grade. SD you'll get more speed and better response in the mud but it's going to cost some $$ to get to that level |

I was leaning towards back water also. I like their design. I'm gona try geting that 13 they have. And I have a question.... On my boat it has the recommendation for 2 men or 500lbs. Does that 500lbs include a motor? |

I believe the type water you run in impacts the type motor you use. If you are in boggy soft muddy swamp water the SD is a sure bet. If you are in recently flooded fields choked with smartweed and a hard bottom the Longtail will be the better choice. I have a few friends that are disappointed in the SD because it does not perform well it the recently flooded fields. It seems most that prefer the LT do recommend the Back water brand. I will be hunting the Louisiana marshes along with some submerged timber as well. I will have to navigate small sloughs through marsh grass combined with quite shallow water and logs and stuf. I would,d like to hit up the atchafalaya bassin as well, which is basically flooded cypress swamp. I thing I might go with the long tail |

Just going to warn you now a 1236 is going be a littke sketchy with a longtail. If its your first then make sure you learn the motor and how it handles. Def get some tiller time in an area thats calm. You will enjoy it once you figure it out. Good luck. |
