Alright fella's I've got a new prop, seals, and nut set on the way for my 23Van GDLT. Figured I would start the process today by getting the old nuts and prop off. Guess what, I got the two lower nuts and washers off but the prop just will not budge. I get the part about 2x4's and fancy prop wrenches to turn the thing. My Question is how hard can i pull on that thing. I've got a big ass screwdriver in the bottom part of the U-joint and a 4' long chunck of 2x4 hogged out to slide over the shaft. I can put a ton off pressure on it, hell I'm almost lift'n the boat... It just seems that if i pull any harder i'm gonna break something. So HOW HARD IS TOO HARD TO WRENCH on this thing...

Heat it up a bit with a propane torch

A propane torch ain't gonna get hot enough. The prop will draw off the heat too fast. Go borrow your buddy's acetylene torch and heat JUST THE PROP HUB!

You can pull as hard as you want, The shaft has enough flex to keep you from breaking it, MOST OF THE TIME :o !

Be aware that you can use whatever methou you want to UN-SCREW the prop, but, once you start, it is IMPOSSIBLE to screw it back on, due to the weedless shape of the blades :cry:

If you DO break the shaft, a new one was under $50.00 last time I bought one. (About 4 yrs. ago).

The EASY way to solve the problem is to suck it up and buy a new shaft!

Pipe wrench or big crescent on the hex right behind the prop, let it
stop on the cav plate and 2x4 are my weapons of choice...

Used lil liquid wrench at the threads and propane torch at prop hub
after 2 or 3 heat and cool cycles they usually break free - there is a
freeze spray at the auto parts house too that I have heard helps...

Everything showed up today. So now I have to get that damn thing off.. Got a new torch, a new 2 x4, a six pack, and all night. Wish me luck..

i had the same problem but i soaked ol' gal every day for a week with penetrating oil, mapp gassed the hub, then big ass pipe wrench and 5 foot cheater bar.

I remember lifting my boat and trailer the first time! I also remember to use antisieze every time now!

Just to let you fella's know, it took pulling the shaft, a pipe vise and a acetylene torch. but i got her off.
