I got a 25 hp kohler GD LT. It was running 3200 rpms out of water and 2900 rpms in water. I started play with the linkage and cable and got 4200 rpms out of water. What is a good rpm to run this motor at? Any help would be great thanks

3500 in the water with good prop. 3600 or more with a worn prop. seems like mine is running about 3800 out of the water with a worn prop

I agree with the 3500 in the water with a newer prop. If you are getting 3800-3900 in the water, you may need to move up in size on the prop.

I was running 4250 out about 3900 in, turned it down to 4000 out. I should be 3700ish in....someone said 4000 max on here for the Kohlers?

The right question is at what rpms is my motor performing the best?

If I'm running 19mph at 3500rpms and your running 19mph at 4000 rpms, who's motor is going to last longer?

If I'm running 15mph at 3100 rpms, I either have a very large load in the boat, or my prop is too big for my application.

For the 25 kohler and 27 kohler that I had 187 hours experience with, it was right around 3500 with a brand new prop.
