So I purchased a GDLT with the swivel mount not realizing it was meant for a 16in transom. The boat had a short transom but we re worked it for the 35 hp outboard. So my question is should I cut it back down to 16 in for the motor to perform correctly?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412200754.685341.jpg

I would say yes, for the best performance. But they way you have it marked, it will not swivel back into the boat.

I was just looking at that my self I may just cut it at an angle or remove the tubing from the transom

Doesn't have to but it sure helps when you trailer it.

Ive seen some use a transom saver like device to prop them up.

We have hauled GDLT motors on boats for years by just tying the tiller handle down with a rope.

Definitely cut down for best performance or you will be really slow and fighting the tiller to keep the prop in the water. My motor swivels but I still trailer in the running position. Just be extra careful, hang a light on the back, big flag, and stay alert for following traffic.
