Im in the market for a new boat and have come across a 2009 1236 alumacraft with a 2004 9.9 johnson for what i feel like is a good price. i will be hunting river swamps/beaverponds as well as impoundments with lots of vegetation, off the river that require crossing dikes. the area is also tidal and we regularly have 7-8 foot tide swings. not too many place i will be have a hard bottom its mostly soft mud bottom that you cant get out of the boat unless you want to sink up to you eyeballs. the longest run i will make with the boat would be around 7 miles one way and not too much open water. I have a gx390 engine already and was thinking about putting that with a backH2o kit and using the 9.9 as a backup/fishing motor. anybody have any experience with a similar set up or should i consider a smaller motor? i hunt solo about half the time and the rest with one other guy(185 and 220), usually no more than 18 decoys and our guns and blind bags. we try to hunt as light as possible. |

You're on the right track... You wont regret getting the backwater kit and that engine will push that boat at a good clip... |

Is this just for you to hunt alone? I think you will be very dissapointeed with that small of a boat. I started with a 10' and 4 boats later I'm on a 1542 wanting a 17 now! On my 10' with a 9.9 doing 12 mph on a glass day was just plain scary. After one trip I quickly moved to another boat. |

Had a 1232 with a 7hp GD LT on it that ran like a champ. with just my little 130# ass it would get 12-13mph. It preformed real well..... |
