Right now i have a 1438 riveted jon boat with a 11hp Honda homemade LT I'm looking at getting a new boat and motor this spring Im set on getting the 35 backwater what would be a good sized boat to match with it? I would like a 17ft what would be a good width? I was thinking a 42 or 44. I would like the best option to get the most speed. Thanks

I would go at least 48 with a 17 that motor has a lot of power and 1 mph for a 6 inch wide boat is well worth it, width makes a boat much bigger.

So you don't think it would decrease the speed having that wide of the boat? I don't have experience with long tails and wide boats. I've only heard that the narrower the better

Narrow is better to a point yes, but there comes a point that you have to have the length to compansate for the lack of width, it's all about surface area of the bottom vs drag. If longer and narrower as an absolute was better, we'd all be running 20+' long by 2ft wide boats lol

I haven't had it in the water yet......I'll be putting a 6 gal tank and running my battery from the bow....just a lil ballast.

That big 35 should be on an 18-20' hull, as was posted a 1844, 2044 or 1848/2048....anything less will be short-changing that beast.

18x44 is perfect for a 35 lt, narrow (not much surface drag), easier to turn, length will haul a good load, drafts shallow. Can fit in tight spots, well balanced

Get a quote on a complete rig from Backwater. I got the 17-52 alweld with a 35ss. I couldn't be happier with every aspect of the boat motor, service, attention to detail, you name it, they have it dialed in. It handles like butter on big and small water. I also got a stand up bar and made a long bench seat to run down the middle of the boat after running their demo boats. It seems weird at first glance, but it's about as practical and light weight as it gets.
