Fuel cap,Fuel filter, fuel tank, check fuel line for leaks or kinks, old/bad gas, dirty carb, ask questions on MMT is the usual order when I have a problem, or drive with the choke on until I can't stand it any longer. Good luck! |

Sounds like the line or the pickup is clogged if the bulb collapses. |

I saw a post on here about a year ago about some fuel lines that were shedding their liner like a snake skin and plugging up, just a thought if the bulb is collapsing . |

These guys are correct. If the ball is collapsing there is a restriction between the ball and the tank. Are there any other symptoms you haven't mentioned, like is the battery or the tool box setting on the fuel line? Why was the gas cap off? |

Get now line at auto parts house and pump bulb from academy or wally world.... Use small diameter 3/8" line not larger 5/8" - it works better... Then give it another try... |

You should be able to blow back to tank from primer bulb end and it bubble up in tank. Primer bulb should be like a check valve - flow to motor not to tank. I have actually seen Mariner/Mercury fittings at tank not push ball in connector far enough to open/ btw mercury plugged into Yamaha fitting will cause that trouble also --- that is if you are using quick connect fittings. and also those attwood type quick connects are a big piece of shit! Personally I tend to stick with omc type fittings on tanks and hoses, have 3 boats and it makes it easier to move fuel and tanks where needed. |
