 6:1 Gear reduction
I have a 5.5hp with a 6:1 gear reduction laying around.
any body think this has any use for a longtail ?

No. Think of the gear reduction like your transmission in your truck. In DRIVE you are turning fast rpms(mph) with low torque, in LOW you have torque but no rams(mph). A 6:1 gear reduction will take your motor running at 4200 rpms with an output of 700 rpms. 42/6=7 Understand? You can turn a bigger prop because of the torque but won't have the speed.
