27hp Kohler GDLT to SWOMP 35
Hey Guys,
I'm currently running a 1856 Go-Devil boat with a 27hp GDLT. Both are model year 2003. I am the second owner of the rig and it only has about 80 hrs on it. The GD runs great, no issues there. I'm debating on making the switch to a SWOMP 35. Have any of you guys personally done a similar upgrade on motors back to back on the same boat? Are the gains going to be worth the cost of upgrade? I'd like to get into the 35 briggs to have more options as far as performance work goes. I just feel it's a better platform to start with.

with the recent ongoing post battle between GDLT and backH2O, i believe your about to open a can of worms on this post haha. I personally run, and prefer, the backwater. think it it a much better build/design. ill leave it simple like that. cause i think there is about to be a shit storm brewed over this topic. again. good luck.

It's not necessarily true there are more performance options for the briggs....I'd say there is likely at least double the options on the little kohler...But I'd still prefer to go to a bigger block, briggs or not. Gains from the 27 to a 35 are definitely worth the money, and then you have a more powerful platform to start with if you want to go further.

I'm looking for users who have run a 27 vs 35 on the same rig.
If I choose to upgrade to a larger unit, it's going to be a SWOMP. I'm not looking for a debate on which 35 is the best, only looking for opinions on what sort of performance gains I can expect.

The gains will be significant. Better speed, and much better load carrying. Not much else to talk about if that's all you want to know. It will be worth the coins...

I am going to do it in a season or two! I have an MB 27 (2004) on a 1648 grizzly (2004). I will have to put it on the 1648 at first, but also plan on going to an 18' hull like yours, but narrower (1844/1848). You need and will enjoy those extra horses for your heavy azz hull.

This conversation had a couple people get warned and a thread deleted just yesterday lol. The 35 is much more powerful than the 27. Regardless of brand, you would be happy.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Sounds like the 35hp will be put on the wish list for this season.
