I have a 14hp v twin briggs on a sps kit. I know longtail are slow but lontail are suppose to go through anything. Mine wont push it through anything. The longtail has a really long skeg. Is there a way to modify the skeg or remove it ,because when I get in sand it will bog down. The skeg gets hung up. Do I need to just get more horsepower or is the skeg the problem. Plus me and my dad get in my 14 foot boat it does like 10mph is that normal for a 14 hp?

thank you

Any mud motor will bog and have issues in sand. They aren't ment for it.... 10 isn't to bad...... What is the condition of the prop?

If you go to an American long tail you will notice a tremendous difference. That SPS is horrible. I am sorry to inform you of this but I went threw the same heartache. For starters the aluminum prop sucks. The skeg is the size of John Holmes shlong. The wood bushings need a gallon of grease per outing. The plastic seals let the gallon of grease fly out. The shaft housing is so flimsy that it bends when you try to dig in. The shaft is not threaded so you can't switch to a stainless prop unless you put a new shaft in. I can go on and on. Just buy a backh20 and be done with it
