Post subject:  13hp or 22hp?

Hi, I have a 1436 Tracker Topper (the riveted one). I am planning on ordering a Backwater kit in the next month or so so I can have it all figured out and set up with plenty of time before teal season. I was planning on getting a 13hp predator and the respective glider kit but now they have a glider kit for the new 22hp vtwin Predator (or Hondas etc). So, has anyone tried a 22hp one yet? My biggest concern is that the 22hp might be too heavy for the boat. I am waiting on backwater to send me the weights of the 2 glider kits but the motors themselves are a difference on 33lbs. One is 73 and one is 106. I imagine the glider kits are about the same as each other. I know it is easy to mod the 13 to get more out of it too. What would you guys recommend?

I recommend the most hp u can afford. Yes the 33 lbs is a bit more but it's not too much more. Reposition the battery and gas tank to the front to accommodate for those extra pounds in the rear.

If you are looking at just weight then look at Vegascartsperformance.com : clone motors, 25 HP in a single cyl 460 CC, 6000 RPM motor. It is a seriously modded 390 motor for I think $600.00.

I agree with Alexm. If it were me I would stay stock and go with the 22. Not hard to offset 30 lbs.

I'm in the same position with a 1436 as well and am about to build a mud motor from a kit in the next few weeks. Today I saw that harbor freight has the 22 hp predators for 549 on sale till the 18th which is making the decision even harder. what are you using the boat for?
