Hi folks, I've been searching a while with no direct conclusion to my problem. I'm running a 1436 boat with 1' full width pod, 8hp go devil longtail. My adjustment nut has my longtail just in the water deep enough to push at idle, in fact I have to pull up on the handle to make the prop grab, however at wot my cav plate seems to be to deep making my engine work really hard, I'm guessing 6-8 inches bellow surface as I can't see the plate at wot. My godevil is an older model and I only have 1/8 to 1/4" of plate past the spine that runs down the center on the top of my cav plate. Question is. Is that really enough to bend down and bring my prop up at wot, and since I really need to drop the adjustment bolt 1/4 turn or so I'm afraid it will only get worse? I'm planning on either a 13 or 22 hp predator upgrade but would really prefer to figure this out first.

Good idea, SwampDonkey1! Much easier to bend the "trim tab" than the plate...have one on my 2004 MB LT and it was easy to fine tune the planing depth. A friend has a 20 year old GD 25 LT and never had to mess with the cavitation plate, he was lucky, each hull/load is different necessitating this tinkering.

Thanks guys! Yea I'm gonna have to take a Metabo to mine, it's not made like that. I'll upoad a pic this eve when I get home.

Here's how my plate is made, I wasn't sure if that small bit of plate past the spin would be enough adjustment to give me the lift I need, I highlighted where I'm thinking of making cuts to actually give me a trim tab.

Looks like somebody cut your trim tab off! LOL...at least compared to what's on GD's literature. I'd take a pic of mine...but, it's 3 hours away.

That should be fine. You probably only need a half inch off at most. It doesn't take a whole lot to affect change on it.

That's what I was thinking 1/2-3/4" I think it came from the factory like that. It's an old motor, serial # 1300 lol.

My 16 hp is an early '90's vintage and I know it has the trim tab. We were using 5. & 8 hp's back in the 80's on fiberglass pirogues....can't really recall if they had them or not.
