Newbie here, and MMT seems to have wealth of info floating around so hopefully someone can answer my question. Can I take a Beavertail frame that had a 31HP vanguard (engine blew) and do a 1 for 1 swap with a Honda GX630 without any major modifications to the frame? The shaft diameters are different so the yoke will have to change and the PTO heights have a .012" difference. Thanks for any help in advance.

Ok so I got the new to me frame home. I didn't realize I was getting the blown engine too but maybe I can sell it as a parts motor. I ordered my new GX630 today and need this monster off the frame. I'm have a hard time getting the u joint off. I'm slowly tapping it off the shaft but it'll take a while. Any thoughts or tips? I'm sure there is a very simple way I just have no idea.

Guy I got it from said he hit a log and popped the motor out of the water. A short while later Sparks and oil flew everywhere and this was the result. It looks as though the governor spring was disconnected. Maybe it just spun apart?

Only time I've seen that happen, the connecting rod came out the side. Usually a lack of oil thing...

Yes all the set screws are removed and I filed down the spot welds on the keys. A guy I work with is gonna help me out. We'll use his tractor bucket to slightly lift it and then we are gonna hear the u joint and slowly tap it off.

Ok wd40 did the trick just fine. I got the new u joint, prop and motor today and what do you think... Yep bolt patter is off and I need about 1" spacers under the motor to match the previous PTO height.

Also where do you guys have your alternator's rectifier mounted? It says not on the engine for vibration reasons but the only place I can come up with is the u joint cage so not sure if that's any better.

Got it all done. That Honda runs like a dream. It pushed me and two other grown men up river at 12 mph (my boat is a barge and really plows) down stream I was getting 15+

Very nice build / swap.

Do you mind to find out who makes the vinyl wrap and name of the pattern?

Thank you in advance!

Never seen a vinyl wrap, but pretty sure that's Max-4. I've seen guys send their cowling off to get dipped (water imaging) and turn out pretty good. It's kinda pricey though.

Thanks. It is Max-4. Next time I see him I'll ask about the vinyl. It was just scrap he had lying around.
