25hp Kohler Go Devil LT

My go devil is having a fuel issue, and I need some help with it.

I have replaced the fuel line from tank all the way to carb including new primer bulb to be sure of no air leaks in fuel line. Gas tank vent is open, I replaced the electric fuel pump and checked that it was getting power, so from reading on forums for a few nights I determined it could be the Fuel solenoid on the front of the carb so I removed it and took the plunger mechanism out that could have been blocking fuel but even after the removal of the stuck plunger when engine is tilted but still dies even with it disconnected. I'm at a loss, It runs great 30-60 seconds but the moment I manually trim the motor down, as if it would be when driving in water it dies in the way of running out of fuel. Any secrets, or anything I'm missing I'm at a loss anyone have help or ideas ? Oil level is perfect too.

Thank you!!

Sure does sound like a low oil sensor if its doing it as soon as its tilted. Make sure your choke rod isn't rattling open and killing the engine. I've had that happen after replacing the choke rod, vibration would rattle the rod at 2000 RPMs. Took me a little while to figure out what was going on.

Will it run through a full RPM range when its running for those 30-60 seconds?

When i check my dip stick it seems like the oil level is a step above F possibly just a tad too much oil in it? But it's for sure not low on oil via the dip stick, I removed the choke from this motor because that broke too. I'll double check oil levels at home in an hour.

It will run wide open but stutters then will die off soon after 10-15 seconds later.

Hey Tommy, sorry about your problem. Are you using 1/4" i.d. fuel line, and how long of run is it? Do you have fuel/water separator? Did your replacement electric fuel pump have the same flow rate as the original? If not, that might be the problem.

Tonight I was able to move the power for the fuel pump 12v basic box style electric pump to the main power source, i was worried about the pump malfutioning or not getting power so used a tester and I am getting power to the pump.

After getting the engine warmed up, using starting fluid it ran great but only when consistently pumping the primer bulb. I played with the throttle response was perfect and ran great but as I stopped pumping the primer the engine died shortly after. I even manually trimmed the engine to the ground while pumping the primer and it still ran perfect at WOT.

I let a little bit of oil out of the motor, but my dip stick shows its at perfect level when engine is set level to the ground.

I get a little bit of smoke coming out of top carb when its starving for fuel.

Ive replaced fuel line with 1/4 inch after the fuel pump to carb, Gas tank to Fuel pump is attwood primer line with easy quick connect brand new last week, I've read about problems with quick connects but this is very tight and I had this same issue before i changed all my fuel lines...

I would use 1/4" id line from the tank to the fuel pump as well. Has to be the fuel pump lack of correct flow rate or it is faulty. Check your fuses as well.

Like Ranger said, if you can keep it running with the primer bulb you are pumping fuel through the electric pump as you should be able to. It appears the pump is not moving fuel. Can you hear the pump operating (clicking) when power is applied. If it is , then the pump could have failed internally. Take the fuel line off the carb, direct it into a container and power up the pump. If fuel comes out it's working. If not I would try a different pump or you can run by continually squeezing the primer bulb. It will really build up your muscles on those long runs.

Well I went and got a new more expensive fuel pump this one cost me under $50 but made in USA quality other than the other cheapo one I had bought. Wired it in and it finally is pumping fuel so you guys were spot on bad fuel pump now I'm getting adequate psi and motor starts and runs like a top at any position! Happy Thanksgiving guys thanks for all the help and I'm pumped it's back running perfect!
