 Newbie with a plan?
OK, I have a 14 HP Kohler to build a longtail. Eventually I want a 1648 mod v boat. Would this motor get it on plan with a couple guys in it? Figuring all duck hunting maybe an occasional fishing excursion. My real plan would involve building this first one, finding a 12' boat for it and sell that one to fund another build for the 1648. Any help appreciated, can't figure the search button very well. Dandbuck

14hp would be pretty week on a 1648
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

yeah, I was thinking maybe that 22HP that people are using for the 1648, and using the 14HP for a smaller boat, just hoping I could get it to work for a bit and tryout. THanks

I'm using the predator 670 on a longtail on a 1648 and I get 15mph loaded. Just for reference

 Re: Newbie with a plan?
The truth is most of us started small and morphed bigger. I can understand affordable too. Go ahead and have fun and put that 14 HP on a 1436/1440 and run it for a couple of seasons. At most a two man rig, using caution. After that get a 1648 and the least motor I would use is a 23 HP LT. Hell, I've been trying for years to convince my wife I need as many duck boats as I have shotguns but she won't budge saying nay. There's been many a time I've wanted a 1436 again with maybe a 12 HP copperhead sd just for the easy handling and hideability of it.
