 shallow water painted boat from Thailand Hey there...I have recently aquired a 35 ft. shallow water boat from Thailand...has no motor...thinking of a motor that is at least 90 HP...any advice or contacts would be greatly appreciated

Re: shallow water painted boat from Thailand Like a outboard? If your looking for like a longtail they use vw engines or airplane engine. I seen one that had a duramax engine

Re: shallow water painted boat from Thailand Well I picked up the 657x yesterday and managed to get it to bust off on the table today. Without putting anything on a scale I'm pretty positive it weighs less than a twin vanguard. I still have to add and figure out the cooling system but so far that's the only hold up I see so far.

Re: shallow water painted boat from Thailand My wife took a video from her trip to Malaysia and Thailand back in the early 90's, and I was very impressed with the river boats, the loads they were carrying, and the speeds they were achieving. Some were big rigs, like the 35' hull you have indicated, and smaller rigs with smaller motors. They obviously have more wooden boats there, using teak and other woods. I reckon most are quite heavy. Some did have protrusions built into the transom areas like the pods that are used here on aluminum hulls. I still think our longtails can be even better if we designed specific hulls for them, as GoDevil has done- albeit I think these can be improved even more!

Re: shallow water painted boat from Thailand Thanks, flint87! I like that gear reduction box idea better than the clutch/belt like the MB SLT. I must admit that on all four of my longtails, the U-joints have fared well. The cost of the SLT, as good as it may be, is prohibitive. I am happy with my 27 HP LT, just wish I could get 4 mph more out of it.
