You might want to make sure you like duck hunting before you drop the coin on a boat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looking to get into this kind of boat in general due to the area I live in for fishing, froggin, and hunting in general. Several clubs deer, and duck reguire boat access! So not just buying a boat to duck hunt. Always looking for the next kill! |

I would pick another hobby. Duck hunting sucks. Knitting would probably be more successful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How much do you want to spend a rig? Do you have long runs? Deep water? Shallow water? Carrying a lot of people or just you? As long as you stay in La. and don't come to Florida duck hunting is a lot of fun. You will learn pretty quickly that duck hunters are a tough group lol |

@Lb200. I will mostly be by myself or maybe one other. Not a speed freak when it come to a rig. Prolly going to get a used rig first just to learn the basic and get good. I am not on to smith and jones. I just need to get to point b from point a. I will prolly be in a mix of water. Looking at something like a 14-16 ft with a go devil or copperhead. Not looking to spend a ton, just looking to get the job done and learn the skill before trying to be master duck killer. I know this is a process like anything else. Always looking for the next kill! |

@ jakehawk9, I have no problem at all about the tough group. But usually most groups or open to helping someone looking to learn. Will prolly only be hunting louisiana. Ascension parish swamps, and the basin. Always looking for the next kill! |

If you're looking to learn, try going through this site. Every post, or at least a large portion of them. There is information here from years past and last week that will help you. |

From what you've said, you would probly be looking at a 1436. If your runs aren't very far from the launch you can get by with a smaller hp motor. Keep in mind transom height and boat width. A narrower boat will perform better with a longtail. If your transom is too low you'll be fighting the tiller. My brother's 1436 handled well with a 23hp GDLT after some tweeking and carried a decent load, but the ride was short. I've seen a 1436 with a 6 1/2 hp Stump Jumper LT take three decent sized men across the marsh with no trouble. On another note...duck hunting isn't always about what you kill. Good friends, introducing a youngster to the sport or taking an old hunter, a hot cup of coffee (or even cooking breakfast in the blind), watching the sun rise on a brisk morning and the possiblilty of some flight action is what makes a good hunt. KILLING IS JUST ICING ON THE CAKE!! |

I have a little girl and a son on the way. This is something that we will be able to hunt together and hopefully have some action. Dad was a die hard still deer hunter - and almost cost me the love for hunting as a lil boy from being stuck in a stand and never seeing deer. Want my kids to have a variety! Always looking for the next kill! |

Deer hunting is definitely less depressing, and generally a bad deer hunt is your fault or the deer's fault or noone's at all. But at least it isn't the 12 assholes within 200 yards of you blowing their mallard call at a group of bluebills |

1648 hulls are all over the place and are a good all around rig. You do not have to run a "mud hull" and you can use a long tail if a surface drive is not in your budget. We ran a 1648 riveted hull for years with a used 29 LT and killed a crap load of birds. We hunted three guys out of it numerous times as well. If you want to spend the money for more speed and comfort the sky is the limit but to go hunting you do not need all that stuff. You can always upgrade down the road. If you decide to take the big plunge and go bigger, faster and add more creature comforts I would suggest getting every option you want and be done with it. There is an absolute ton of information on this site if you spend some time searching or just scrolling through looking for topics that catch your eye. There are also a lot of guys on here that will go out of their way to help you out in many ways. |
