I ran the twin 23 on a 24 X 48 Alweld for 2 or 3 years. It would carry a load like nothing I have ever run. I had 1800 lbs in 5 inches of water and a Yukon river glacial silt bottom. The rig maintained 22 mph with 2 plumes of silt coming off the props. It was actually easier to drive than a 35 longtail, but the twins burned a little more fuel. The 35 SD made them obsolete except for twin engine redundancy. They work best with a big boat... 20 X 60 or 24 X 48 because of the weight on the transom. They won't turn quite as tight as a single because the twins won't swing as far to the side. If the bushing, bearing, seal and shaft replacement was to the current system sold by GD it can't be beat for reliability and longevity. Previous seal systems without the spiral groove bushing and improved seals were bad for wearing out and grooving the shaft. I don't know how long the new system lasts because I've only retrofitted from the old and never had to replace the new style because they last so long. If you need to carry a load and have a big boat it's a sweet system and not nearly as hard to drive as you might think. If there is a better market in your area for a single 23 longtail it isn't difficult to separate them and have 2 for sale. |

20 x 60 that belonged to an Alaskan Lady. Top speed, light, was about 25. put a 4 wheeler and a couple of people in and it would drop to 24. |
