I am purchasing a swomp 59" shaft from back water.. but don't know how long tails perform best on what hulls...
I am looking at a 16-17' hull 38-40" wide...
What would best suit this motor...
I will be using this set up in cypress swamps without actual runs... just picking my way threw slowly with hard bottom an shallow waters most of the time so bouncy is a factor but would 2" on a rounded bottom make that much of a difference?
I run alone 7 gals of gas n battery in front open hull light as possible...
So 16x40?
16x38?
17x40?
17x38?
I run alot of shallow hard bottoms skinny runs open water time to time..I just don't know how a longtail best preforms for speed bouncy handling and manuvability in 1 package

I have a 17'x40" if I get another boat it will be 42 or 44". There is virtually no difference in performance, with those widths.

In a 38 or 40 and you have 2 or 3 people in the boat you kind of have to watch how you move if all are standing.

If you are mainly going through winding timber I would get a square chine. It turns better at slower speeds.

What size motor? , second , solo hunter all the time or need room to add buddies. Longtails like a long skinny flat bottom hull. 42"-44 "would be a good size.

23 hp motor... 90 percent of time just me ..my bud will buy a set up just like it for him... but square chimes over round for slow running threw timber?
Would there be a outstanding difference between a round an square chime boat sittin the water?
I been a prodrive owner for 9 years now so that is my big setup if I bring someone else out... but just to scout an ride for fun I need a long tail to get off the beatin path around my area.. even in high water my brother has ease with his long tail idleing around but I have to stay on step to move with ease

Square chines hang on knees - round chine is far better at slipping off and
thru cypress knees and stumps - long and thin - 18x38 or 18x44 GD hulls
were made for this stuff and can handle a SD if you decide to go that way
later on 16 to 18mph with loads and 23 LT are pretty normal... The extra
two feet length very seldom hinders you and always helps carry load and
adds speed too.... A pointed bow is also a must have feature...

IMO - from my experience I much prefer my 18x44 to my old 16x44 GD
same with 18x38 compared to 16x38 GDs & my old 17x42 Weldbilt square
