We installed this weekend haven't had it in the water yet but it's pretty dam neat and looks to be well built . Thr throttle is the only thing I don't like about it . It looks like the throttle is off a ten speed bike and it sucks balls. The prop is stainless steel but is a three blade that's welded at a certain pitch, not a machined prop but the little baste is sharp . . Kits fairly easy to put together and I can't wait to try it out

We're going to use it on a 1436 or the big blind boat . We don't needa go fast but where we hunt it's stump heaven and outboards get tore up . We have longtails but in our permanent blind boat longtail isn't handle isnt small enough to run off of it and through the tight trails we have . So I'm hoping it will push it few miles a hour just to get to point a to b without tearing shit up.

There's a post with an image of it somewhere on here. It's sort of a longtail/SD hybrid. Has a flex shaft off the crank that bends down to the prop. Google "twister surface drive" and some videos will pop up.

Well buddy took it out today 2 men in a 1436 and it pushed good. He's never drove a surface drive only longtails and I'm not that familiar with surface drives my self... saying that ... i ask how is it

him:
Pretty good. Needs a cavitation plate bad bc prop can be all the way under water and not go anywhere. Gotta drop it way in then it grabs like crazy and will throw you out.the way it is now it creates a air pocket.

But this is where our inexperience with sd comes in . I'm thinking it's working like it should right ? Trim the bastard down until it grabs then trim up once you get going right? Or is that not how it should go.

O yeah and here's the video clip

Nick 2720,
Don't pay attention to smart a__ naysayers.
There are plenty of us who would appreciate more of your first-hand experience & videos of your Twister.
I'm looking for something affordable, lightweight, not necessarily fast, but sturdy & powerful enough to manoever thru all the water hyacinths in our LA swamps. It'll either push a 42x42" jon boat or a 10' NL hybrid duckboat I've been threatening to build.
Thanx for what you've sent in so far &
Waiting to hear more...

Well took it out again . We haven't ordered the cav plate yet bc we wanted to test it more wo one but after running it again on the new predator engine it still needs a cav plate for optimum performance and I don't know why they dont come standard ... ran into some questions and problems yesterday. 1st is that the predator engine has low oil shut off so it won't run at the optimum depth due to the angle the motor sits so I had to unplug the cut off switch. 2nd was that the little bastard when under load wants to vibrat e but once out of water is fine . 3rd is the top bearing has no grease zerks so idk how they expect to keep it from blowing bearing up bc it was hot since it's out of water. The manufacturer said he is trying to see if they will start putting zerks on but I don't see how drilling g a hole in and threading it for a zerk is so hard? The 4th thing was it would push over and through weeds and brush but almost like if it wasn't throttled up it would be to much load and kill the engine and Idk if it's the new engine or what but I did find out my friends grandpa did not have the throttle hooked up right so we were trying to push through stuff at half throttle so it seems that's why it was dying maybe ? .

On the positive notes on a 1436 ( wo out a cav) it pushes better and faster with 2-3 people instead of 1 person . I'd guess it would push around 10-12 so in my opinion it has plenty of thrust for a loaded boat in clean water and brush we ran in . Today they put it on a heavy .125 polar craft 1648 with 3 people and with the throttle still at half to 3/4 pushed around 6-8 mph . I wanna try it with a cav plate I think it will help tenfold but we shall see.

Overall biggest concerns are
1. lack of top bearing grease zerks
2. The vibration while in water under load ?
3. Will it have enough power to keep running in thick weeds and muck once we get cav plate and full throttle going or will it continue to die and stall out
