Post Mud Skipper twister w/ clone 11hp
Just looking if anyone has had experience with this set-up? Also does anyone have an opinion on the engine (honda clone). Would a predator engine be a worse or better option? I know there is one thread on here just looking for any update info or reviews? thanks

Which clone? If you're near a Harbor Freight and can take advantage of their warranty they're hard to beat. I've got a couple up here in Alaska and I'm very happy. I've got a 212 and 301 Predator on kits from Swamp Runner. The 212 has brought home a black bear, I don't know how many beaver, and a 54 inch moose! The 301 isn't broken in yet.

What is your intended use?

If you're already looking at Mud Skipper, I'd suggest you take a good look at Swamp Runner and closely compare the two. Call them both, see what they have to say about your intended use and how their products would serve you.

Get on YouTube, look up the various mud motors, including the ones other posters will invariably suggest, see which ones do best what you'd be doing.

If you look up Grumman Sport Boat Swamp Runner, you'll find some videos of me playing up here. I get stuck a couple times, once in ankle deep water on gravel, once in ice!

Be safe out there!

Thanks for reply.

it will be used for goose/duck hunting to get to some honey holes easier. It will be going in a 1436 flat bottom. i have an 8hp outboard now on it and to get back where i need to get, i have too get out of boat and push. Which is getting old. The clone is the honda clone 11 hp that would come with the twister kit. I put a 212 6.5hp predator in a little dirt bike and never had issues. I am just curious which engine would be best for this application. going through 6-18 inches of water back in marshes.

The website doesn't say which clone they put on, but from the videos on their website it looks like a Harbor Freight Predator 212 motor. It's a clone of the other motor, the Honda, which is listed as a GX200. The GX200 unmodified is given a horsepower rating of 5.5 at 3,600 RPMs. From the pictures it looks like both are modified to get more juice out of them, which I guess could get them 11 horses.

The Twister is relatively new from what I can tell. There is a thread here near the top by an owner.

If the cavitation plate seen in the videos is an indication of it's shallow water abilities, it doesn't look like it can go very shallow. But I don't know how well it runs when you lift that prop closer to the surface either, couldn't tell in the videos. And the motor in the videos on their site looked stock. It may be just the ticket for you.

But I think with a 1436 you may soon be wishing for more engine, regardless of what 200cc class engine you get and it's modifications. They weren't going very fast in those videos, but they did get where they were going at least.

I just put a Twister on a Predator 212cc yesterday. Only had it out two times now. Fought it the whole time without the anti-ventilation plate on it the first run. Much, much better with it. Almost necessary. Also did a performance air filter and exhaust. Really new at this but happy to answer any questions as I learn.

Its on a 14' Tracker and I've only run my river and a lake with it so far. I did run thru the grass around the edge with no issues but thats the extent so far. Wide open with just the aftermarket exhaust and intake I'm getting 10-11MPH. Thats with two people in the boat with a combined weight of about 350. I will say its peppy enough I ordered a grab bar immediately after the first trip.
