Second question do I need to remove the shaft first or can you work around it ???

umahunter, according to the Beavertail maintenance pdf I read online, it says the bottom cap is reverse threaded (turn clockwise to loosen?) so I assume the top cap is similarly attached. I believe you have to undo the shaft to replace the upper seals- I had to do this on both my GD and MB longtails. I would call Beavertail just to make sure!
