Post Small Engine Restriction. Let's Talk/See Them Small Rigs
Hey y'all I'm interested in building a small rig for a few refuges around my house that have a 10hp maximum. They consist of mainly flooded timber but there are some areas that are flooded field with coffee bean. The largest hull I am wanting is a 1442. I have been looking at the 9hp GDLT or the 12hp Single Cylinder Copperhead. Can y'all share some opinions and please share some pictures of yalls Small Rigs? Thanks in advance.

23hp Backwater with a 10hp Briggs sticker  Predator engines can be a bit confusing that way....
Just muffle it well and don't hot dog it.

I put together a 1236 Jon boat with a 6.5 predator on a swamp runner kit. For one man and gear it's awesome but put 2 in and it's a turd

Yea I'm looking for something more sturdy that the Thai Longtails. I had a 12 I think and I hated the length, hated how flimsy it was and hated how many props I was shattering to bits. That's why I was interested in the Go Devil 9hp if I went with a Longtail but if y'all know of a Longtail Company that is STURDY then holler. If not would y'all go with the 12hp Copperhead? Main thing is I want the largest Single-Cylinder engine. These Ol Wardens around here actually know how a mud motor works lol so the sticker replacement has to be within reason.

Hey 45th Parallel, can you put up a picture of that 1436 with the 10hp that you have?

I don't have much for pictures. It's an alumacraft from Cabelas with two benches

I run a 9 hp GDLT on a 1648 riveted flat bottom John boat. It's not a speed Demond but it goes just about anywhere. Running empty I get 13 mph, have not clocked it loaded with gear and another person. I bought the motor used 4 years ago. The only thing I have done to the motor is changed the oil. Still runs like a champ. Never replaced the seals or prop, but I do need a new prop.

Thank y'all for the replies. I think I've narrowed it down to a 7hp Subaru Stumpjumper or a 10hp Briggs Backwater. Either way I will be putting it on a 1436.

Does anyone have some opinions on the two brands of mud motors?

I looked at a stumpjumper, bought a 6hp PPF and sold it to get my 10hp Backwater.
Good, better, Best in that order. The versa-mount and cleanliness and smoothness are the top three reasons you couldn't pay me to take another brand motor. (geez, I'm starting to sound like the Gator Tail boys). As I've said before, if you ever ran one side by side any other, there's no comparison.
As far as motor size goes, go 10hp, it's not that much faster, just has way more power and pushes a load much better and stays on plan rather than chugging along. If you are always going solo a 6hp is fine.
