I gave a buddy my old MB longtail frame. He set it up with a 22 hp Predator. I just found out his boat has a 21 inch transom and my old motor ran perfect on a 16 inch transom. He's going to try to hunt with it this season. How hard is thing going to be to drive? Will it blow out and will he have to fight to keep it in the water? Thanks. |

Probably. , he may have to bend the cave plate , it's not desirable but it is doable. H Finn |

A friend of mine put a godevil on a 21" transom and it was bullshit. Once it planed out the prop was running like a surface drive and lost all its bite. Plus he had to pull up hard on the tiller to keep it in the water Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Fighting to keep it in the water would be what I figured. I think he's screwed unless he finds and old flat he can use to get him by. He bought a 9 x 5 wheel for it too. I think that is going to be really be a dog to drive. |

Me and my buddy both have run 25 horse godevil longtails on long shaft transom jon boats. you do have to pull up on the handle some, but it isn't too bad. we both got about 17mph out of them. when it is all you have had, you may not know how much better it could be. |

It sucks! MBLT and GDLT preform the best with a 16" transom...... 21-22" transom, he is going to have to bend the heck out of the cav plate, and it will blow out quickly... plus he won't get max speed.... will be pushing stern of boat upwards mo than forward Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My longtail setup was a tall transom but it ran fine. Took a lot of tuning in the frame and cav plate to make it happen though. Still saw 20mph out of a 20hp Honda and 1548 Weldbilt. |

For what its worth, at the beginning of teal season this year, I got a 22hp LT to put on my 16x48 welded jon boat. It had 20'' transom with a 3 inch jack plate to mount the motor to. I tried to run the motor with this setup and it was absolutely miserable. i'm 6' 220lb in decent shape and it took everything i had to keep the prop in the water. Instead of cutting down my transom, i opted to just flip the jack plate upside down making it essentially a 17" transom. This has made a world of difference and i can drive with one hand and drink a beer with the other again. I cannot stress enough how miserable you will be with a 21'' transom and a short transom style long tail |

It's my buddy's deal. He's supposed to water test it Friday. I agree that it's going to be a turd but this is his first attempt at a mud motor. Some folks have to learn their way (the hard way), I prefer to learn from others experiences myself. Thanks for the tip on flipping the jack plate! |

I just ordered a 35 HP Backwater 71" LT to put on a 1756 Alweld alu. boat with a 21" transom. I hope I haven't screwed up. Thoughts? |

Did you order the boat from Backwater also? It's my thought that they wouldn't sell a less than optimum boat-motor combo, for their motor. |

Why doesn't backwater come up with a hull design to optimize their already optimal motor? They could sell that for big bucks to all the fan boys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Probably the same reason there isn't a ton of Louisiana made hulls up North. The backwater guys brought one of the fiberglass hulls to caddo last year, and I'm pretty sure I heard them talking about aluminum boats too. Russ or Huck would probably know for sure. |

If you don't like running a Backwater, then don't. I don't even mind you telling folks why you don't like to run a Backwater. But don't lie and say stuff like "unless you're under 5'8" you have to squat when you drive it." Or don't label me and others ass-kissers because we chose to run Backwater and we tell others about our experiences. Run your rig and tell everyone why you like it over a Backwater. I'll run mine and tell them why I prefer it. And I'll leave it at that. |
