So after my "long tail with jetski motor" didn't work out I thought I was gunna put a 23 vanguard on it since I had one that only needed a little work. Then I remembered this 15kw Generac generator someone left that needed the gen-set replaced so wasn't worth fixing to them... So.. 992cc, I figured why not. Not sure on hp but maybe 30ish? I've had it together for a little while now and got all the bugs worked out and finally took everything apart and put some Imron industrial paint on it. Wife picked the color so dont make fun, wasn't what color I hoped it would be but its growing on me. There's a few things different that I havn't seen on other longtails so I'll point them out. There was no charging system on the engine since it was from a generator so I put a mini denso alternator on there. No u-joint, love joy coupling from engine to driveshaft. I was able to turn a taper into the coupling to match the crankshafts taper so no keyways or set screw on that side. I put a low oil pressure light on it since it had a switch and I was worried about it loosing oil pressure at a steep angle. The shaft housing is aluminum 1/4" wall and u-bolts to the steel frame. Cav plate and skeg bolt to the alum tube Handle bar height is adjustable and engine balance and height is adjustable. Throttle lever is a brake lever off honda atv so I can lock park brake to act as cruise control. makes a long drive a lot more comfortable. I Cerekoted the muffler but apparently it wasn't "high temp" cerekote so it burned off, I guess i'll get some high temp cerekote. It tops out at 20 with the 9x7 now at like 4100 4200 rpms. It could prolly run a 9x8 or x9 but it idles kinda fast like it is. I'll probably be buying or building another hull once I make up my mind on 16, 17, or 18 ft. But will most likely be 38" bottom. Opinions on length??? Someone told me any longer than 14 will give you trouble in the timber. PICS |

I have the same engine, they ate listed from 30-33 hp. Theres a thread her that states 44 hp with no exhaust. Those are nice engines but parts are hard to come by. Its a canadian built briggs 35 vanguard. Heres that thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9930 |

Good job! If it were not for tinkerers, we'd still be paddling....for a short while MB advertised some Generac 33? HP longtail motors, never read a review/report on them. 20 mph is sweet for any longtail. |
