Not sure if this is an issue I need to resolve with the motor, or just one I need to resolve in my head . Recently put a 23hp Vanguard GoDevil on my 1436 FlatBottom. I've taken it out multiple times since it's been on , to work out the kinks with it. Finally got my cavitation plate set up correctly, running right at the surface. I've got a 9x6 prop on, and seem to be running right at the rev range I should be in. Don't have a tach installed yet, but the engine tone at Redline out of water, is only slightly more than WOT in water. Well, my issue lies in the speed of my rig. I'm averaging 14-15.5 mph with 2 people, and a light load. Any way I distribute the weight, and speed stays within those margins. When I drop down to one person, I'm still only averaging about 17.5-19 . The higher ends of my speeds are in shallower water, is my only guess. Not too sure where the 1.5 mph fluctuation is coming from. GPS may need some re-calibration . I guess i'm just not understanding this. I was kind of hoping for about 17-18mph with two people and light load. When I say light load, I mean 6 gallons of gas, lifejackets, and just the legal necessities. No extras. Am I just getting too caught up in the exaggerated speeds people are posting? Or should I really be pulling a few extra mph? a little help with this would be great. |

Kind of sounds about right. It's a small boat for any kind of load and it's gona start falling on its face with any weight added to it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Whats the weight and build of your hull? Any pics? My hull is 14x42,standard thick rivited with front seat. Solo im running 20 mph with 22 subaru, loaded with 3 adults im pushing 15-16 mph in deep water.no exageration here. Also length of shaft makes a difference in speed,i have a 74 inch shaft. Honestly from what ive read and seen, your speed is spot on with other 23lts. Dont really know why im faster, maybe the added hull width. I do know i have way to much prop with a 9x6,im only turnning 2000 rpm @ 20 This is my gps screen shot from last weeks run. Heres the solo vid https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uVyE6_KeL ... e=youtu.be |

Ill accept that my tach may be off by alot....its cheap. But 20 mph with a beat 9x6 is facts. I do have a 9x7,21-22 speed solo but rpm is a lil lower. To me it sounds close to 3k rpm,but ill discuss my issue in another thread.....not to side track the ops thread. My gps is accurate, checked it with 2 vehicles.20 is dead on. |

You gotta have a tiny tach or equivalent to really dial in a mud motor. I run the cheap $15 knock off I got from Amazon. You boat should be going faster. My crappy Predator 22 in an 15 yr old Go Devil frame bumps 22 solo and does 21 solo solid. The slowest I've gotten with the 9x6 Backwater prop is 15mph with wife, kids, and lots of gear. With us and a reasonable load we get 18 in 2-3ft of water. |

I have a 14x36 lowe rivited and I added the small pods to it. I have a 23.5 Kohler GD LT Solo w 6 gal gas and battery assorted stuff I can get 23 out of it. With 2 people and hunting gear (guns, shells, 3 doz decoys) i get 18 all day long at 3500 RPM w a 9x7 prop Agree w everyone else that u need a tach to see what is going on. Also, those short boats slow way down if u put weight up front.W 2 people I have only one bag of decoys forward of the front seat where buddy sites. rest of the weight is between rear and middle seat. |

Sorry to all for the late reply , I've been on vacation since monday evening. I guess I'll throw some updates whenever I install a tachometer, and go from there on advice. I figured that a 1436 hull would be a detriment to this rig, but at the same time, I expected a bit more of a speed increase between the 14hp longtail I had, and this new 23hp. Not just 1-3 mph. I will update everyone when I get a tachometer installed, and you all can help me go from there. Thanks to all for the advice so far. It's appreciated. |

I had a 25 kohler gdlt on a 14x38 and my higest speeds deepwaterbwas 20mph,22 in shallow. Two people loaded 16mph. Not sure on rpm but a 9x7 prop. Switched to a 16x48 that weighs alot more, getting 18mph deep water but a way smoother ride and faster on plane. |

Speeds seem about right. I used to have a 25 Kohler long tail on my boat and would get 24 mph solo. Adjust the throttle cable and let her run wide open if you want. |
