I bought a older go devil frame it had a 9 hp Briggs on it go devil said had no motor now . I was wondering if I can put a bigger motor on it if so what modifications would need to be made ? What to put it on a 1546 boat is why I'm wanting bigger motor .

You would have to change the mounting plate height to allow the shaft to line up with the u join at its proper angle, and you would need a new prop. Go too big and you will have balancing issues. Look at the weight of a 9hp compared to the motor you want to install

Thanks I'll try calling them tomorrow and so far I've found pto shaft height is same and I'll need to drill two holes in base plate to make it work wouldn't be to bad just need to find measurements for the mounting bolt on back on motor above shaft

Looks like from everything I've seen online that the original 9hp Briggs and 23 Briggs have same pto height and bolt Circumference pattern on back of motors bolt mounting pattern for the base is off alittle but just have to drill two holes and change prop size from 8x4 I have now to the 9x6 and work on balance of motor after mounting it all up .

To balance the motor all you gotta do is just start glueing pennies to the cav plate

My 16hp Briggs GD frame now has a Predator 22 on it. I would try swapping it out and just drill a couple of new mount holes in the base plate if needed. Be sure to measure it a few times to make sure its right.

I talked to warren coco this morning about going from 9hp to 23 hp said it is possible but he said it would take some modifications. Cavitation plate angle needs to be changed, ribs on top on shaft added if it doesn't have it , change prop size and motor side yoke on u joint needs to be changed , and depending on motor your putting on it the pot shaft from motor maybe shorter and hard to line it up and make sure it's not rubbing on the bottom or top side of the shaft bushings . He said both motors use 3/4 inch shaft except when they build a 23 hp crawfish model it's a 7/8 shaft and double u joint said if it was a 58 inch long shaft and 3/4 diameter it broke them so they have to make them 7/8 and the double u joint helps with the vibrations the 7/8 shaft adds to it . So it can be done take some work and time figuring it all out right

I would but it's trash probly to far gone maybe even to fix and I've decide to put a 13 hp motor on it so it just works I ain't gonna have to modify the frame I'm gonna buy new prop for it when I put the motor on it .
