ok, first off, way to think. Thats the way everything starts off.
second, your shaft is way too long if your goin for the SD. It needs to be riding on the surface of the mud/water (prop half in/half out) when on step. Right now it would be a foot under water wich would kill performance and be a BIATCH to drive. But, they are just drawings and maybe not to scale. Also, the angle of your first u-joint is very sharp. Cut the angle and get more lenght out of the shaft and that will also raise the prop. Be careful how many joints you have, every point will reduce power just like havin 400hp at the flywheel and 365 at the wheels in a car. Wich when your talkin only startin with 23-35 you dont have much to spare. These are just somethings i noticed... But, like i said, keep thinkin and maybe you'll have the next big thing! Good Luck! :D

You may try to see if there is some type of cv joint you can use instead of the top u-joint.

I has more flex than a standard u-joint. If you are going between a LT and SD you are gonna have a hell of an angle.

Take a look at the design of the GoDevil SD. It has the CV at the bottom instead of the top. That might give you some more food for thought. Good start.......Keep thinking. None of us has a monopoly on original thought or good ideas.

cv joint would definitely be th way to go, you just have to make sure it's sealed from water and debris. the bottom bend would be hard and you have to have a bend there with the shaft angle that steep. LT's have a very long tail because with a shorter tail you have a steeper angle and it has force pushing the prop out of the water, where as with the longer tail there is more forward force and less up(out fo the water) force.

let me ask though, what exactly is the purpose in making the longtail style? maybe youre like me and would just rather drive a LT, but still wish to have the power of a SD
here's a good idea:http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/diy-marinizing/thai-longtail-mudmotor-6hp-lifan-honda-26281.html

and just to save my arss: all credit given to pistnbroke for that design

ok, then what are the pros of a SD besides gearin down?
not tryin to bash your idea, cause i know that sucks, i know from experience. but it would be cool to find a medium between LT and SD, the problem is i've seen a couple people do a design with the same concept as the link i posted and i don't see any reason for something else. of course i've never driven a geared LT but, i like the idea, one day mine will be :P
