We run 50 yamahas on that size boat down here. You will be fine with a 23. ;)

Do you want a LT or SD? 20 miles, aint there a closer ramp? If its similar to the rivers up this way then 23 hp LT up river = long trip....

We tried putting a 24 on a 1442 and it damn near sunk it. With the motor and one person in the back to drive it, the top of the transom was about an inch or two out of the water. If you put a person in the front it would raise the back up a tad, but would just plow running wot. It plowed even worse with only one person. Impossible to plane out and water was comin over the back if you slowed down even a lil bit.

That being said, a different 1442 may hold it up fine. Doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

Also agree with DA. That boat is nothing to make a 20 mile run in. Get a big boat with a big outboard and carry a pirogue with you for when you make it to the skinny stuff.

Damn, that's a long trip. You're talking an hour or two, depending on how that thing runs. I'd get something bigger for sure.
