I saw that yesterday and thought the same thing.

This is for all the times you:

didn't let me out of the house and caused me to piss and shit all over.
didn't feed and leave me water.
didn't let me smell and lick all those bitches in heat.
made me ride in the back of the truck.
made me retrieve all those ducks without even so much as giving single bite of meat.
made me retrieve a duck you only wounded.
made me sit at attention in the living room while you ate dinner with the whole family in the dinning room.
made me walk so close to you all the time and I'd better not be ahead or behind you...make up your damn mind, would you.
made me so excited last Christmas when you told me I had a special present under the tree and we all got up early Christmas morning to unwrap it and put my brand new collar on. I was so happy until I found out what this word meant...Tritronics when you pressed that little button on the other thing in the box, you son of a bitch and hear's another 100 pellets in your ass for that.

A similar thing happened several years ago around Gibson. Some hunters were riding back to the landing with dog in boat and gun still loaded. Dogs foot stepped on auto shotgun and fired more than once. I think they were close to the landing and had to get airlifted.

It's definitely something to think about logistics of dog in boat and unattended shotgun

THis actually happened to a friend of mine here.

He was on the marsh pulling the boat up, guns loaded. His dog Rusty, a very big lab who's passed away now, stepped on his gun and set it off. The guy that was hunting with him ran the boat to the road where the ambulance picked him up.

He was shot in the face and neck, the wad was lodged in his throat and he had pellets go through one eye. He's now blind in that eye, has a huge scar on his throat, and his voice is all messed up, very raspy and quiet lke he's straining all the time. The guy that was with him quit duck hunting after that, Phil continues to hunt, but he had to learn to shoot left handed.

Your right, this is much funnier than a fake leg hanging out of the back of a truck.

Nice young school teacher was killed here last year by his retriever,
set his gun down inside the truckbed - dog knocked it over then stepped
onto safety and trigger as he was lowering the tailgate - bled out in
minutes right there....

Never take your hand off a loaded weapon !

Apparently this happens a lot. I remember in one of the older Duck Commander videos he was harping on this gun stand for hunting out of a blind. The contraption was about a foot tall and screwed into the floor of the blind. You stuck the butt of your gun down in the padded tube type deal and it held your gun in place pointed skyward. He talked about how he had a gun go off in the blind just like people above have described. If you think about it, a dog’s paw is a pretty good design for rapid safety switch with the pad and then pulling the trigger with the nail coming around.

I guess it goes to show that you can never be too safe with a gun.
